2004 winner The Mersey Partnership
"Members of the organisation worked in harmony to devise a strategy that attracts 19 million visitors to the region each year" The Tourism Catey honours one person or a team of people who have made an outstanding contribution to the standards of tourism in the UK. Last year's winner, The Mersey Partnership (TMP), was recognised for the serious hard work it put in to overturn Liverpool's poor image and get it back on the map as a tourist destination. The icing on the cake was winning the European City of Culture bid for 2008, which was an outstanding achievement, given the competition it faced. 2004 winner Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa
"The location of the £18m new-build property wasn't immediately in its favour, but rather it was the hotel's overall offering that won the judges' favour" The past few years have been difficult for the group hotel sector, with operators of all sizes feeling the pinch resulting from low occupancy levels and competitive room rates. Economic confidence has also been slow to pick up from its 2001 slump. Last year, however, saw the strongest indication of recovery yet, and all signs are pointing towards a healthier 2005. 2004 winner John Hoskins, Huntsbridge
"He didn't need an enormous operation to catch the judges' eyes. It was his well-planned strategies and sharp business sense that won him the accolade" When looking for an innovative approach to business, last year's Catey judges were struck by John Hoskins's decision to let chefs manage all of his food-led pubs. The managing director and owner of Huntsbridge was a clear winner for the Pub and Bar Industry Award, after training chefs to run the business's four pubs and reaping enormous success. 2004 Winner James Horler, La Tasca Restaurants
"The prize had to go to a man so devoted to his team that he opted out of having a head office in order to spend the savings on training" The judges of last year's Group Restaurateur of the Year Catey were in no doubt that the prize had to go to a man so devoted to his team that he opted out of having a head office in order to spend the savings on training. This was typical of James Horler, chief executive of La Tasca Restaurants. Taking last year's award, he became the latest winner in a line of industry leaders, including Robby Enthoven of Nando's, Ian Neill of Wagamama and Simon Woodrof New Michelin Stars 2005 New Michelin Stars 2005
