Managed pub and bar firm TCG has launched a new quick-service food concept, called Wok Out, designed to keep drinkers in its pubs. The hot, freshly-cooked snack meals will be served from front-of-house serving stations at more than 30 TCG venues, or served at their tables by waiting staff.

A 56-bedroom Holiday Inn Express has opened today on Merseyside as part of a £5.5m redevelopment scheme by Sanguine Hospitality. The Holiday Inn Express Liverpool-Hoylake opened in Hoylake, Wirral, on the site of the former Kings Gap Court hotel.

Gregg's Table - the new restaurant from MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace, which has received a barrage of negative reviews since opening at the end of February - has appointed a new head chef. Dorset-based family brewer and pub company Hall & Woodhouse is to hold the wholesale prices of its draught cask ale to its pubs for the fourth consecutive year. The company said the ongoing freeze was one of the main reasons for it being crowned Best Tenanted Pub Company at the Publican Awards last month.

The De Vere Group is selling two hotels to Britannia Hotels for around £20m. It has exchanged contracts on the five-star, 140-bedroom Royal Bath in Bournemouth and the 192-bedroom De Vere Daresbury Park in Warrington.

There is overwhelming support for a reduction in VAT from 20% to 5% on hotel accommodation, attractions and meals away from home among hospitality professionals. That's the key finding of a survey by the British Hospitality Association (BHA) of more than 200 of its members.

Low-alcohol beers appear to be gaining in popularity in the off-trade, thanks in part to lower duty on beers below 2.8% abv, with sales at one supermarket rising by almost 50%. Figures from educational beer website www.beergenie.co.uk showed that Tesco had seen low-alcohol beer sales increase by 47%.

René Redzepi, from the world-famous Noma restaurant in Copenhagen, is to run a two-week pop-up at London's Claridge's hotel this summer. The two-Michelin-starred chef, whose restaurant has twice been named the best in the world, will run A Taste of Noma at Claridge's from 28 July to 6 August.

Celebrity chef James Martin is to launch his new range of in-flight meals for Thomas Cook Airlines on 1 May. The BBC1 Saturday Kitchen host has developed a menu for the airline featuring traditional dishes such as bacon and eggs for breakfast, and slow-braised British beef with baby onions and herb dumplings for dinner .

Lindley Venue Catering will continue running the Starbucks outlet at Pride Park, Derby County FC's ground, after its multimillion-pound contract was extended for five years. Vietnamese restaurant chain Pho is to open its seventh restaurant after acquiring a site in east London. The group, led by Stephen and Juliette Wall, has taken over the former S&M Café in Spitalfields. The 85-cover restaurant is set to open in late June.

The Savoy Educational Trust has announced it is to sponsor nine scholarships worth £3,000 each at the Edge Hotel School. The scholarships will be spread over three intakes at the UK's first hotel school run in a fully operational hotel, starting with students enrolling in June, July and September 2012.
