The Wine & Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has appointed Miles Beale as its new chief executive. Beale is currently deputy director for EU and international agriculture policy at the Department for the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and will take up his new role in June.

Chef and sommelier duo Agnar Sverrisson and Xavier Rousset, co-proprietors of the Michelin-starred Texture in London, are set to open a second 28°-50° wine bar and bistro this spring. The pair, who launched sister restaurant 28°-50° in the City of London in 2010, have taken on a new site in Marylebone.

Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F. Heat a non-stick, oven-proof pan over a medium high heat. For each portion, add a small pat of butter and when it foams add the monkfish tail and brown it on both sides. Season with salt and pepper.

Pub firms Peach and Renaissance have both joined the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA). Renaissance, with six pubs in south London, and Peach, with 15 pubs in the Home Counties and the Midlands, are the latest recruits to an association which now has a membership of more than 700 restaurants, pubs, contract and mobile caterers.

A company has launched what it claims is the industry's first draught vodka, Vodka One. The Vodka One font, which delivers a certified weights and measures 25ml or 35ml shot in one second, means licensees can serve cold premium vodka much quicker than is the case at the moment.

The Spirit Pub Company is "on track to meet full-year expectations" as brand investment and increased food sales drive growth of 4.6%, according to a trading update released today. Wine and beer importer Morgenrot Group has secured an exclusive distribution agreement to launch and develop Heineken's abbey beer brand Affligem in the UK. The Affligem range includes a Blond (6.8% abv), Dubbel (6.8% abv) and Tripel (9% abv). The beers are available in 33cl bottles with the Blond also being available in draught format.
