The aRMOS restaurant menu ordering system launched in November by Biffasoft is based around simple-to-use Compaq Ipaq palmtop terminals, bypassing the need for hand-written orders and speeding up service. Staff quickly enter table orders and transmit them to printers in the kitchen, or at the bar or other till-point. Waiters look up menu items and enter orders into the specially programmed terminals using touch-pens with Bluetooth wireless technology (as used on mobile phones) providing the communication links.
A central PC server installed as part of the system acts as a nerve centre and can be installed in the back office. Biffasoft estimates that a complete system for a 100 seat restaurant will typically need four hand-held terminals and five printers.
Total cost including the server, aRMOS software and hardware, Bluetooth hardware, cabling, installation, training, support and free core upgrades is around £15,000. A more basic system with one terminal and two printers starts at £7,560.
