The Hunting Lodge hotel

The Hunting Lodge hotel and holiday cottages in Bellochantuy, Argyll and Kintyre, has been sold off an asking price in excess of £695,000.

The coastal property, near Campbeltown, boasts an award-winning malt whisky bar and its own private foreshore with a crazy putting course.

Built in the 1870s as a shooting lodge for the Duke of Argyll, the hotel is next to the busy A38 tourist route and the new Kintyre Way for walkers. It is set to benefit from a second golf course being constructed in nearby Machrihanish.

Along with 12 en-suite bedrooms to sleep 24, the hotel offers an open-plan dining room that can seat 70 diners or accommodate 120 guests for weddings and parties.

Other facilities include a games room with a snooker table, a day room/viewing gallery, a snug leading to the malt whisky bar, a TV lounge, a meeting room and a breakfast room/buffet area to seat 17.

The ‘Rock’ room at the southern end – used for weddings or meetings – incorporates a large, natural rock face.

There are three one- to two-bedroom self-catering cottages, of which one is currently used for staff accommodation.

A three-bedroom suite to the rear is used by the owners while the hotel includes two staff bedrooms with a shared bathroom.

The Glasgow office of Colliers Robert Barry sold the freehold to Clive and Helen Philpott from Skegness, who are making their first move into hospitality.
