Edwardian Group snaps up Odeon Leicester Square site for hotel redevelopment

The Edwardian Group is to open its third hotel on London's Leicester Square, with the announcement that it has purchased the square's Odeon site.

It is believed that the 14-strong privately owned hotel group paid around £100m for the location, from Ireland's National Asset Management Agency. It has planning permission to be redeveloped as a 245-bedroom hotel, a two-screen cinema, 33 residential properties and five restaurants.

"The purchase of this site is one of the most important acquisitions for London and we see this as another jewel in our crown," said Robert Morley, director of Edwardian Group. "Not only will it be a landmark development for the capital but it will create upwards of 400 jobs. This is what our group is all about - investment in potential, creation of jobs and a huge vision for the future."

Twelve of the Edwardian Group's hotels are in London - including the 60-bedroom Radisson Edwardian Leicester Square and the 127-bedroom Radisson Edwardian Hampshire in Leicester Square. The group also has two hotels in Manchester and Guildford. All the hotels, except the one in Guildford, are owned by the company.
