The concept of "warm and serve" cookies, already popular in US catering outlets such as exhibition spaces, sports stadia and coffee shops, has made its way across the pond with the arrival of Nestlé's Toll House Cookies.
Unlike baked or part-baked products, the dual-texture cookie - crunchy on the outside and chewy inside - is cooked at the factory then frozen, before being warmed through in a branded cabinet at a temperature of between 45°C and 55°C to be ready to eat in 20 minutes. The warming cabinet can be placed on the counter top and keeps the 57g cookies hot for up to six hours.
There are three flavours available now - chocolate chip, triple chocolate chip and white chocolate chip with macadamia nut - with more to be introduced later in the year. The cookies come in cases of 48.
Prices: warming cabinet £199; cookies 29p each
