Hotpac clamshell-type disposable burger boxes made by Linpac Plastics in expanded polystyrene (EPS) now weigh just 4.2gms, which compares with 6.3gms for a single sheet of high quality A4 photocopy paper.
A major aspect of this lightening of the packages is use of oil-based polymers. Linpac also claims that, as well as needing minimal materials, only a small amount of energy is needed for production.
