What's New? - Organic Food

Friday 18 July 2003 15:43

A healthy cereal thriller
Jordans Cereals and cereal bars are made with chunks of real fruit and nuts with no additives or preservatives and are suitable for vegetarians. Jordans started making organic products 30 years ago using their milling expertise to preserve the flavour of the grains and to retain the nutrition.

Organic Crunchy Cereal (10x400gm) and Organic Muesli (14x500gm) are made from organic ingredients.

The Duchy Originals organic food and drink range, with profits from sales donated to The Prince of Wales's Charitable Foundation, comprises biscuits, preserves and drinks made with organic ingredients to traditional recipes.

The biscuits vary from Shortbread to Oaten biscuits to Ginger Thins and are made from oats and wheat harvested from Home Farm on the Prince of Wales's Highgrove estate. The preserves available from Duchy Originals include a range of marmalades and fruit preserves in 340gm jars.

Duchy Originals beverages include Deeside water, which is available in still or sparkling varieties and bottled at source in 75cl  and 500ml sizes. Also available are Apple and Lemon Refreshers, which are traditional soft drinks, made from organic apples and lemons. The refreshers are in 250m and 75cl elegant green glass bottles and can be served on their own or as a cocktail ingredient.

Baguettes to ice cream
Brake's Par-Baked ambient storage 10in Organic Sandwich Baguette has a light, creamy texture and bears the edible Soil Association mark on each baguette.

It only takes ten minutes to cook in the overn so you can easily have a bath "on the go" during the day.

Suitable for vegetarians, a pack of 30 x 10 in baguettes costs £10.95 (34p each).

The organic range also includes Banana Cake, a 9in moist banana cake made with bananas and topped with a snowy vanilla fudge frosting.  All you have to do is remove all packaging and allow to defrost in the fridge for about eight hours. It is pre-portioned into 12 generous slices.

Organic Vanilla and Honeycombe Ice Cream is made with real cream and chunks of honeycombe.  It can be served on its own, as part of a sundae or as an accompaniment to a dessert. Available in a two-litre container at £6.80.

The white stuff
Move over green tea - the latest thing is white tea, according to Dragonfly Teas which has launched Organic Swirling Mist White Tea.

This variety of tea produces a clear infusion with a lingering fragrance and a fresh , mellow, sweet taste. One serving of white tea can be brewed several times, with each step revealing another element of flavour.

Grown only in China, high in the mountains, Swriling Mist White Tea is made using the first tender leaf buds. These are carefully selected and plucked by hand.

Luscious and low

The new Wicked Wholemilk multi-pack range is based on new confectionary flavours. This includes combinations of organic toffee with fudge pieces and apple with butterscotch, plus golden honey and vanilla.

Rachel's Forbidden Fruits multi-pack is a rich range of yoghurt desserts with added cream. This new product represents the first step for Rachel's Organic into the dessert market.  Flavours include strawberry, apple with blackberry, raspberry and peach.
