London's Marriott West India Quay goes smoke free

The London Marriott West India Quay Hotel has today become a totally smoke free hotel.  

The company claims the Canary Wharf property is one of the first five-star hotels in London to introduce a comprehensive no smoking rule throughout the entire property. 

Under the English smoking ban, which comes into force on 1 July, specified hotel bedrooms will be exempt, but Marriott decided on a full ban for its 301 rooms and 47 executive serviced apartments following customer research.

All public spaces including Curve Restaurant & Bar, the Manhattan Bar, the Executive Lounge, the hotel’s 14 conference and banqueting facilities and the lobby areas are part of the initiative.  Staff areas are also covered under the “smoke free” rules.

Paul Downing, general manager at the hotel, said: “We are proud to be leading the way and implementing a total ban throughout the hotel ahead of the Government’s regulations.  

“We see this as a huge step forward which will enhance our guests’ experiences when visiting the hotel.
