Cornish brewer and pub operator St Austell has set its sights on London as it looks to expand outside the South-West of England for the first time.
The company, which operates 169 pubs across Cornwall, Devon, the Isles of Scilly and Somerset, wants a pub in the capital to be a showpiece for its beers and the county of Cornwall in a bid to attract more business to the region.
The pub, to be named the Cornish Arms, will showcase everything Cornish with tables and chairs made from trees grown in the region and artwork from Cornish artists. The food offer will include Cornish pasties, clotted cream and fish from the area.
St Austell – which recently agreed a pub deal with celebrity chef Rick Stein - is also planning to have a live web cam showing surfing in Newquay and facilities for visitors to book a weekend away in Cornwall.
The company has appointed property agent Davis Coffer Lyons to find a leasehold in the areas south of the river or in north-west London.
