Blumenthal collects OBE

Thursday 01 June 2006 00:00
Heston Blumenthal, chef-proprietor of the Fat Duck, in Bray, Berkshire, is pictured last week at Buckingham Palace collecting his OBE, which was awarded for services to the hospitality industry.

Blumenthal, 39, said: "The Queen asked about the restaurant. We have a pub next door and upstairs there's about a dozen pictures of the Queen when she came to lunch in the 1960s with heads of state. She said she remembered it well."

The hospitality industry did well in this year's New Year Honours list, when Blumenthal was recognised along with Gordon Ramsay and restaurateur Alan Yau.
