Caterers looking to revamp their sandwich menus are the target of the new Bakehouse Mezzaluna, a new Italian sandwich carrier that provides an upmarket alternative to bread. It’s made near Florence from authentic Italian pizza dough, brushed with Tuscan oil and folded to hold either hot or cold fillings.

The mezzalunas can be defrosted and packed with cold fillings or defrosted, filled and heated in a panini grill or oven. They’re packed in cases of 25 pieces and, with a gourmet filling, can command retail prices of about £3.45 to £3.99 each.
