Baker plans a new Harlem in Brixton

Friday 28 May 2004 14:43
Pioneering American music producer and DJ turned bar and restaurant owner Arthur Baker is expanding his portfolio with a new venture in Brixton, south London.

Following on from his Harlem bar and restaurant in Westbourne Grove, London, Baker is planning a new restaurant, bar, private members club and hotel for "an A-list site in the heart of Brixton".

The site is understood to be secured but will not open for at least three months. The new Harlem will occupy the ground floor, with the first and second floors given over to 10 hotel rooms.

Interior designer Paul Daly, who designed Harlem in Westbourne Grove, the Elbow Rooms in Islington, London, and the newly opened Hoxton Apprentice in Hoxton, London, will again be responsible for design. "We're not worried about the location. Brixton needs places like this," he said.
