Preferred Pride collection of hotels launched to welcome gay guests

The Preferred Hotel Group has launched a collection of 100 properties worldwide which create the best welcome for the gay guest.

Preferred Pride is made up of a group of independently owned and operated hotels which understand and cater to the specific needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) traveller.

Two of the hotels are in the UK - the 50-bedroom Hempel and the 142-bedroom Mandeville hotel (pictured), both in London.

As well as standing for equality in their employment policies, Preferred Pride members all belong to either TAG Approved (Community Marketing's Travel Alternative Group or IGLTA (International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association).

Rick Stiffler, Preferred Hotel Group executive director, leisure sales, said the new collection of hotels intended to unite Preferred's hoteliers who are committed to the LGBT community. "It is a global initiative that enables hoteliers to learn about and better understand the needs and preferences of the LGBT traveller," he said.

Service provided by Preferred Pride hotels including offering bathrobes, slippers, and toiletries befitting same sex couples; having a knowledgeable concierge who can provide a list of the area's best attractions, dining and nightlife; or simply including publications within the hotel that acknowledge the specific guest's interests.

Training will also provide the hotels with ideas on how they can take a more active role in their local LGBT community through activities, sponsorship and support.

The Preferred Hotel Group provides sales and marketing support for more than 850 properties, across six brands, in 70 countries worldwide.
