Gordon Ramsay Scholar finalists announced

The organisers of the Gordon Ramsay Scholar 2006 competition have announced the finalists for this year’s College Scholar Award.

Eight young chefs from colleges throughout the UK and Ireland have been selected for the cook-off, which will take place on 24 November at the BBC Good Food Show at the NEC, Birmingham.

The winner of the College title will win a place in the prestigious Gordon Ramsay Scholar grand final, which is being held at the show on the 25 November.

If successful, the winner of the Gordon Ramsay Scholar can look forward to £2,000; an attaché case of Wüsthof classic, silverpoint and gourmet knives; a set of All-Clad pans; a year’s subscription to Caterer and Hotelkeeper; a one-week work placement at a UK-based Gordon Ramsay restaurant; a visit to the Royal Doulton factory in Stoke-on-Trent; and a named Bragard chef’s jacket.

In addition, the College Scholar winner will win their college £4,000 worth of Robot-Coupe equipment and all eight students competing in the final of the Gordon Ramsay College Scholar will attend a course at the International Hotel Management Institute, Lucerne, Switzerland.

The College Scholar Award finalists are:- Andrew Whitelaw, South Lanarkshire College, East Kilbride; Jonathon Mackeson, City of Bristol; Matthew Nacey, St Helen’s College, Merseyside; Simon Haynes, Leicester College; Matthew Titmus, Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies; Linda Kelly, Institute of Technology Tallaght, Dublin; Lorna Fraser, South Lanarkshire College, East Kilbride; and Kieron Boyle, Westminster Kingsway College, London.
