Alan Murchison sports the new EkoChef jacket

Eco-minded chefs can now wear their hearts on their sleeves thanks to an innovative new chef's jacket from London Linen Group made from recycled bottles and waste polyester fibre.

Each EkoChef jacket uses 80% less energy to make than traditional jackets and saves 2.5kg of carbon dioxide from incinerating the bottles. Trials with leading catering companies and restaurants have found no difference in functionality or comfort compared with conventional attire.

Alan Murchison, executive chef at L'Ortolan, La Bécasse, Paris House and the New Angel, is among the fans of the new jacket, which costs no more than standard formats.

"As a chef, I'm always looking for the most sustainable option, whether it's choosing produce in season or reducing food miles," said Murchison.
