Police are warning hotel owners to be on their guard against a conman and woman who have struck at least three times in North Yorkshire.
The couple checked into hotels in Thirsk, Bedale and Northallerton in the run-up to Christmas and made off without paying, taking the contents of the till and bottles of drink with them.
Their victims included the owners of the Wellington Heifer, a well-known pub and restaurant, with accommodation at Ainderby Steeple, near Northallerton.
The man is aged around 45, 5ft 10ins tall, and of average build, with greying, swept-back hair.
The woman is slim, aged around 30, about 5ft 4ins tall, with shoulder-length, blonde hair.
A police spokesman said: “There’s a good chance this couple may have struck elsewhere in the county or indeed the country.”
