Ferschke to fill snyder's job at London marriott

Franz Ferschke has been named general manager of the London Marriott in Grosvenor Square, following Brad Snyder's move to Marriott's Kauai Resort, Hawaii.

Mr Ferschke has been with the company for 17 years, including a period as regional director of operations in London during 1991-92. His career spans executive chef positions at Marriott hotels in California and Arizona.

His last post before returning to London was regional director of operations, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Boschetti hangs up his chef whites

Nigel Boschetti, executive head chef at Amberley Castle, West Sussex, has become operations manager of Alexander Catering - also part of the Amberley Catering Group.

In addition to his duties at Amberley Castle itself, Mr Boschetti last year took on a wider role as executive head chef for the group.

He will now oversee the growth of its private, events, outside and contract catering business.

Recently-appointed hotel manager Michael Purtill hopes to name a replacement for Mr Boschetti before completion of the new kitchens in March.

The previous kitchen was destroyed in a fire just before Christmas.

Kirk to evaluate teaching quality

Professor David Kirk has been appointed lead assessor for the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council team evaluating the quality of hospitality teaching in Scotland's higher education institutions.

Professor Kirk, who is head of the department of hospitality and tourism management at Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh, will report on each department.

He will place them in one of four grades: excellent, highly satisfactory, satisfactory or unsatisfactory.

He said the reports would provide valuable information for prospective students and employers of hospitality graduates.

Helen Hughes has been promoted to sales manager at Hinckley Island Hotel, Leicestershire. She was previously business development manager at the property.

Sales and marketing co-ordinator Mark Upham has been promoted to business development manager for the West Midlands, working alongside Nikki Ball, who handles the East Midlands.

Hailwood lured to turnpike inns

Tony Hailwood, former general manager of the Jarvis Embassy House Hotel, London, has become general manager of Bournemouth's Winter Gardens and Lampeter hotels.

The two properties were recently acquired by Turnpike Inns, a Hampshire-based business set up three years ago by John Finney to manage pubs, nightclubs and hotels for banks and receivers.

Properties such as the Winter Gardens and Lampeter, which are owned rather than managed, will trade under the name Constantia Hotels.

The 70-bedroom Winter Gardens will be closed until March for a £185,000 refurbishment.
