Heinz SqueezMe tomato ketchup

There are over 255 million portions of fish and chips sold each year in the UK and the most popular accompaniment to them is tomato ketchup, according to TNS.

Heinz SqueezMe!, the main sponsor for the National Fish & Chip Shop of the year, has conducted a survey of the top 190 entrants (100 responses received) to confirm the TNS data - with 64% of respondents agreeing tomato ketchup is their customers’ favourite.

When reviewing the study findings it seems to be the Northern lasses and lads that prefer mushy peas as an accompaniment to their fish and chip supper, whilst the Scottish region very saucily has a preference for brown sauce. The Northern Irish participants were the spiciest with a favouring for curry sauce with their fish and chips.

Surprisingly, a gender differentiation was noted with 26% of shops questioned. Male customers have a preference for brown sauce whilst female customers tend to choose mayonnaise or the traditional tartare sauce.

From the fish and chip shops questioned 66% said they use Heinz SqueezMe! as part of their condiment offering.

SqueezMe! which is as innovative as its name suggests, has proved so popular with punters that in just over 18 months the product has placed its 10 millionth pod into fish and chip shops alone!

Available in 26ml packs (cases of 100) SqueezMe! contains three times the sauce in an average sachet  offering maximum sauce control with no mess or fuss.

In launch research customers said they were willing to pay 15p per SqueezMe! pod. These statistics are still pertinent as 86% of the fish & chip shops questioned that sell SqueezMe! pods do so for the MRP of 15p or above, whilst some respondents admitted to selling it for 25p!
