Palm oil is the UK's most popular commercial frying oil, but soaring global demand for the oil has caused serious environmental damage in producing areas in Malaysia and Indonesia, threatening the future of species such as the orang-utan.

To ensure caterers can fry their chips with a clear conscience, AAK's Prep Oil brand has joined the GreenPalm certification programme to ensure that its palm oil supports sustainable plantations.

The scheme involves Prep buying GreenPalm certificates for every tonne of palm oil it makes, with most of the money raised from the certificates going to sustainable producers who have been audited and approved by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oils.

The Prep High Performance Oils range also covers rapeseed and sunflower oils.
