Del Monte is out to boost the under-developed market for prepared fruit with its new line of peeled, sliced, ready-to-eat fresh fruit.

Although fruit accounts for one in every 10 on-the-go snacking occasions in the UK - one of the few snacking sectors to show growth - the £130m prepared-fresh-fruit sector is still in its infancy, with just two in five customers buying prepared fresh fruit even once a year.

Del Monte's Naked Fruit range is designed to appeal to the convenience-driven, health-focused needs of today's snackers, with the launch timed to tap into the New Year detoxing trend.

The initial line-up includes Del Monte Gold Extra Sweet pineapple in whole (500g) or segmented (100g) formats, mixed sliced Del Monte Extra Sweet Pineapple and Melon medleys, whole oranges, and sliced kiwi fruit (160g).

Exclusive to the catering sector are packs of Fresh Fruit Salad, Pineapple Exotic Fruit Salad, Watermelon, Mango, Mixed Grapes, Mixed Berries, Citrus Mix, and Apples & Oranges, in weights ranging from 1.2kg to 1.75kg.
