Former London-based, Michelin-starred chef Christian Delteil has been appointed general manager of the 32-bedroom Hotel Crillon le Brave in Provence, France.
He takes on his first hotel general manager role, having spent most of his working life in restaurants.
One of his main areas of direction at the Relais & Châteaux hotel will be on food and beverage, creating new menus, appointing a new head chef and designing interactive cooking courses.
Originally from the South-west of France, Delteil arrived in London in 1975 to work at Le Gavroche. He then moved on to become executive chef at Chewton Glen in Hampshire, where he won his first Michelin star, before returning to London in 1982 to open his own restaurant, L'Arlequin in Battersea, which also won a Michelin star.
In 1996, as chef-director, he was a member of the launch team that opened Bank Aldwych, before being appointed managing director of the Bank Restaurant Group four years later.
In recent years, Delteil has worked as a restaurant consultant throughout Europe.
Peter Chittick, one of the original directors of Hotel du Vin who founded Crillon le Brave in 1989, said he is looking forward to having Delteil on board. "With his profound knowledge of French cuisine and the art of running outstanding restaurant businesses, we are confident that he will bring enormous enthusiasm and expertise to the task ahead."
Robin Hutson, Hotel du Vin founder and now chairman of Lime Wood in Lyndhurst, Hampshire, was appointed a director of Crillon le Brave in 2006 and his wife Judy was responsible for the recent refurbishment of the hotel's bedrooms.
