Contract caterer Artizian has bought its first pub in London and has unveiled plans to launch a new events catering division.

The former Caterer Adopted Business has bought the Royal Tavern in Mottingham, south-east London, and will reopen it later this month after a £1.2m refurbishment as the Royal.

In keeping with Artizian's healthy-eating ethic, the Royal will serve “traditional pub food with a holistic twist” using locally sourced ingredients, and will be headed up by Artizian sous chef Abraham Torre. The pub will have a capacity of 100.

Apura, Artizian’s new outside catering company, will operate from the first floor of the pub and will be targeting blue-chip companies and private event clients in the London area.

Executive chef Andrew Taylor, previously at the company’s Barbican contract, will oversee food development at the pub and event caterer.

Richard Emslie, previously commercial director at Silver Fleet - Woods River Cruises, will oversee both operations.

Managing director Emslie said: “Once we have built up the brand we¹ll roll it out across London.”
