The Red Cow, a thatched Essex freehouse believed to date back to Norman times, has been sold to first-time buyers Chris and Alice Cozens from Oxfordshire.
It’s the only pub in the village of Chrishall, which is near the Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire borders.
The Grade II-listed building with low-beamed ceilings provides two bars, a 20-seat restaurant, two-bedroom owners’ accommodation, a barn with development potential, a beer garden and a car park.
The new owners plan to re-instate the filled-in pond to attract a local colony of newts.
The Ipswich office of Christie + Co sold the freehold off an asking price of £475,000 on behalf of Barry and Monica Cousins who have owned the business for 15 years.
