Dryburgh Abbey hotel

The Scottish Baronial-style Dryburgh Abbey hotel in the heart of the Scottish Borders has been sold off a guide price of £3.5m.

A new company, Dryburgh Abbey Hotel, has been set up to buy the property in St Boswells.

The property was built in the 19th century around the remains of a fortified Borders Tower House.

It overlooks the River Tweed and Dryburgh Abbey (which holds the remains of author Sir Walter Scott) and is popular with fishermen, shooters, golfers, and walkers.

The country house hotel offers 38 en-suite bedrooms across the main building and the Gate Lodge, a heated indoor swimming pool and sauna, two first-floor restaurants –
The 50-seat Tweed and 30-seat Abbey – a lounge bar/bistro and a residents’ lounge.

The Dryburgh Suite or ballroom can accommodate 120 guests and a new conference room has been added with state-of-the-art equipment for video conferencing and training seminars.

The hotel is set in 10 acres of grounds that include lawns, a putting green and a croquet lawn.

The Edinburgh office of Colliers Robert Barry handled the sale of the freehold on behalf of Thurlestone Estates, which owns hotels in Devon and Cornwall.
