Question
I am 29 years old and have three years' management experience in restaurants and pubs. I have been working for a very small company on its first pub site developing the entire working system and business and have enjoyed it. I know that the nature of this work is unsociable, but having spent nine years in the industry, no matter how much I love my job, I need more quality time. Are there any other jobs I could do in the pub industry using the skills I have? I love people and the relationships I am able to develop with customers. Do you have any ideas?

This is difficult as there are many people in the same situation. The best advice I could give would be to move to a larger pub company, perhaps as a pub manager to begin with and then look to move internally to a more office-based position. You might like to try one of the following departments - audit, training, recruitment or IT. You might also be able to find a position where you can work both in the office and out, visiting the company's pubs. Do some research into the larger pub companies by looking in trade magazines and on the internet, and then write to the company that you think is the most suitable.
