He is now chairman at the caterer, a move that ends his day-to-day involvement with the running of the company. In this newly created position he will act as an ambassador for Avenance, working on special projects.
West is replaced by Mike Audis, who was previously head of business development and sales and has been with the company for two years.
A company spokesman said Audis's marketing experience would allow Avenance to adopt a keener focus on new business areas. The company is keen to win contracts with the Ministry of Defence and to strengthen its position in the healthcare and education sectors.
"It's also an opportunity to strengthen ties with our French parent, Elior," said the spokesman, "working together more closely to win pan-European contracts."
Avenance was created four years ago, incorporating High Table, Catering & Allied, Brian Smith and Nelson Hind to form the fourth-largest caterer in the UK. It has approximately 600 contracts, predominately in business and industry.
West was managing director at High Table and has been with the company for 16 years. Both West and Audis were unavailable for comment as Caterer went to press.
