Amici, Soho, London
Yet another "stylish, modern Italian" restaurant opens in London, proving that the Atkins diet has yet to demolish Britain's ardour for pasta. The restaurant will specialise in fish and seafood dishes.

Head chef: Carmelo Carnevale (formerly at Floriana, Knightsbridge, London)
Food: Try the Martini glass with avocado mousse, crab and pachino tomatoes to start, with tuna cooked in an olive crust and new Sicilian peperonata for main. Veggie and meat options are also available.

Yo! Sushi, Manchester
This successful chain of Japanese conveyor-belt restaurants continues to expand with a second site in Manchester opening today. It's the group's fourth Selfridges-based site and its 16th restaurant in total. Look out for the 30m-long double conveyor belt.

Food: Hot and cold dishes including salmon katsu, sweet shrimp nigiri, salmon skin handroll and spicy tuna inside-out roll.

Exhibit B, Clapham, London
This fairly spartan bar is decorated in a palette of white, black and blood-red, and is the latest venture from the owners of Exhibit and Hide, both also in London. It offers a 50-cover restaurant and large bar, which overlooks a small Oriental-style garden and is separated from the bar by a red glass wall.

Food: Modern European and nothing too adventurous - think mushroom risotto for veggies, or pan-fried ostrich with crushed potatoes and fig chutney, or chargrilled ribeye steak with potato wedges for meat eaters.

Monkeynuts Steakhouse and Wine Bar, north London
The rise of the neighbourhood restaurant continues with a new offering from the family behind Giraffe and Caf‚ Flo. It has taken over a former Loch Fyne site on a large corner location, with a wine bar up front and dining room behind.

Food: steaks, fish and burgers with antipasti, cheese and charcuterie boards to share. Also, salad bowls and desserts.

The Food Room, Battersea, London
It's all happening in Battersea these days, and this smart eaterie is yet another addition. It's from the owners of neighbourhood restaurant The French Table in Surbiton, Surrey, and promises smart French-Mediterranean fare.

Executive chef: Eric Guignard
Food: Try the pan-fried foie gras on warm mozzarella and roquette salad to start, followed by grey mullet lightly smoked in charcoal with creamy risotto of baby artichokes and asparagus, or lamb with pan-fried sweetbreads.
