Compass Group has signed a seven-year contract worth £3.6m in total turnover to manage a Costa Coffee at North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust’s main entrance is undergoing refurbishment, with a £175,000 investment from Compass, and will house a renovated reception and a new retail space where the Costa outlet will be located.

Compass expects 2,500 visitors a week to make use of the outlet when it opens in the summer, and the NHS Trust will benefit from rent and revenue-share agreement.

Lynn King, business director of retail and specialist markets at Compass, said: “The new Costa café will serve coffee from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms and will bring the high street to the hospital.”

The caterer will also run a Costa café at the new Faculty of Business and Law Building at De Montfort University in Leicester when it opens this autumn.

Compass’s Chartwells already operates a Spar convenience store and caters at the central food court at the university.

Tony Byrne, business director of Chartwells, said: “For universities, it is vital to combine high street quality with a conscience and to ensure that food and drink offerings fall within students’ budgets.”

Expected turnover from the café is put at £250,000 each year.
