Rupert Clevely: recent acquisitions a 'quantum leap' for the company

Pub operator Geronimo Inns will this month open its latest London-based pub – the sixth in the space of three months - bringing its total portfolio to 27 sites.

Each of the six former Punch Taverns pubs has been customised to reflect its locality as part of a £1.5m planned expenditure programme that has generated 70 new jobs.

Rupert Clevely, chief executive of Geronimo Inns, said the acquisitions represented a quantum leap in the company’s development.

“We are delighted to have secured a quality portfolio of pubs to add to Geronimo’s existing estate and to have successfully raised capital in a very difficult funding climate,” he said.

Since the start of September the operator has opened new pubs in Barons Court, Battersea, the West End and this month it launches sites in Whitehall and Ladbroke Grove.

The Elgin in Ladbroke Grove, due to open on 14 October, is billed as a pub for “Notting Hillbillies” comprising a 30-seat bar area and 70-cover dining room which will accommodate Geronimo’s first venture into regular live acoustic music sessions.

It will follow next week’s launch of the “quintessentially English” Clarence pub in Whitehall which will largely cater for international visitors and civil servants from the nearby Houses of Parliament, Ministry of Defence and the Foreign Office.

Adam & Eve in Oxford Circus and the Northcote and Prince Albert in Battersea opened last month while the Curtain’s Up in Barons Court launched in mid-August.
