Cinnamon ClubThe Cinnamon Club was named as the best ethnic restaurant in the UK at the inaugural World Food Awards, held on Saturday at London’s Hilton Park Lane.

The Indian restaurant in London’s Westminster was selected by a panel of industry experts, including TV chefs Anjum Anand and Ainsley Harriott.

It held off the challenge of Haandi, an Indian restaurant group with sites in Knightsbridge and Edgware, and Haozhan, a Chinese restaurant in London’s Chinatown.

The World Food Awards, organised by the World Foods Association, were designed to celebrate the best UK companies operating within the ethnic food sector across Europe, covering restaurant, caterers, wholesalers and retailers. Other winners included 3663 and Levi Roots, for his Reggae Reggae sauce.

Harry Dulai, of the World Foods Association, said: “Our aim is simple - to ensure that ethnic food is recognised as the important sector that it is. The calibre of our winners is a reflection of the fact world food is now a thriving and fast-paced industry that has long crossed over into mainstream markets.”
