A Kilmarnock hotel has launched a publicity campaign offering cut-price events to assure local residents and businesses that it is open for business.

The 46-bedroom Howard Park hotel has been knocked by a rumour that the business is closing, fuelled by the fact that the company which owned the property, McKever Hotels, went into administration in June 2009.

BDL Management has been appointed by the administrator, BDO Stoy Hayward, to run the Howard Park hotel, along with around 20 other properties within the McKever Hotels portfolio.

“Rumours are going around local businesses that we are closing,” said general manager, Karin Rock.  “But we are absolutely open and totally geared up for the party season – and especially company Christmas party nights.”

Rock said that the hotel is offering festive lunches and dinner from £12.95, Christmas Day lunch at £29 and Hogmany dinner at £32.00.  An overnight stay is £35 per person.

Using foraged ingredients is nothing new but the trend has become more mainstream over the past two years. However, the wider use of foraged food in restaurants also carries a certain amount of danger.
