British hotelier Gordon Campbell Gray has been named as a Leading Legend in a new category at The Leading Hotels of the World Awards.
He was one of three recipient of the award – alongside Elizabeth Gürtler, chief executive of Sacher Hotels in Austria, and Ichiro Inumaru, president, Imperial Hotel, Tokyo – presented to individuals who have made a meaningful contribution to the preservation and advancement of independent luxury hotels.
Organised by The Leading Hotels of the World, a consortium representing 430 luxury hotels, resorts and spas, the award was given to Campbell Gray for his fresh approach to hotel keeping as a result of putting social responsibility and green issues at the heart of his three hotels which include One Aldwych in London, Carlisle Bay in Antigua, and Le Gray in Beirut.
“Stuffy is the last word that one should apply to this man or to his hotels,” said the organisers. “His hotels convey a sense of sophisticated authenticity to their destination, while eschewing the pretensions of the grand hotel.”
