A £19,000 racing bicycle, a spy’s dossier and keys to Porsche and Aston Martin supercars were among the most bizarre items left in Travelodge bedrooms last year, according to the hotel group’s annual survey.

The Travelodge Lost and Found office revealed today that amongst the more unusual artefacts found by staff were false teeth, a pet dog, a six-foot long snake skin and a diamond.

Other bizarre finds included a hollowed out bible containing £250 cash, a collector’s celebrity glasses haul including some from Elton John and a diamond ring belonging to an ex-footballer.

Guy Parsons, Travelodge chief operating officer, said: “Each year our lost and found departments provide plenty of revelations.  From racing bikes to Aston Martin car keys, what our guests’ leave behind demonstrate the cross section of customers we serve.”

The most common items left behind were mobile phones and chargers, toiletries, clothing, shoes, books, hen and stag accessories, adult toys, jewellery and watches, laptops and electrical gadgets and limbs.
