Oxo Tower kisses Valentine's Day plans goodbye

The Oxo Tower has abandoned its lavish £100,000 Valentine’s Day plans in a bid to keep favour with regular customers.

The fairy-tale treat, which was to coincide with the restaurant’s 10th anniversary, was offering the entire eighth floor of the Oxo Tower and a string quartet to one lucky couple on February 14.

Despite a flood of enquiries from rich romantics after the story appeared in Tuesday’s Metro, the restaurant also received calls from disgruntled regular customers.

A PR spokesperson for the Oxo Tower confirmed that the demand for dinner on Valentine’s Day had led to the withdrawal of the original plans, and that the restaurant is now fully booked as a result.

Billed as “The Ultimate Gift For Your Valentine”, the once in a lifetime treat was to include a shopping spree in Harvey Nichols, limo travel, a trip to Paris, and a swag-bag of precious gems.

“We are valuing our closest customers who come back to restaurant time and time again,” said the spokesperson, and added that the £100,000 dream date has already been kissed goodbye.

“We will not be doing this again – we did it because The Oxo Tower can,” she said.
