A pub chef in Berkshire died after tragically mistiming a knife trick he performed in front of a 14-year-old porter.
Mark Hunt, aged 40, had aimed a 12-inch chef’s knife at his abdomen but failed to divert the blade at the last minute as intended.
Instead, the knife sliced into his body as far as his spinal cord.
Hunt, a former paratrooper, only joined The Stag pub in Leckhampstead, Berkshire, two weeks before the fatal incident last autumn.
A post-mortem showed he had not been drinking.
A verdict of accidental death was recorded at the inquest in Newbury.
