Police put Gilgamesh's licence under review after violent attacks

Themed nightclub-cum-restaurant and celebrity haunt Gilgamesh in Camden, North London, has had its licence put under review by police after a man was glassed in the neck and other violent attacks went unreported.

Police lodged a licence review of the nightspot with a claim that it was "associated with serious crime and disorder", according to www.hamhigh.co.uk.

A man suffered lacerations to his neck after intervening in a fight between four women on 18 December last year, the police report said, which continued: "The victim stated that he had been placed in a headlock by security and he was taken to the floor. He said that he noticed that there was blood everywhere from his neck and that two bouncers dragged him to the kitchen exit.

"He said that while being taken across the dance floor another bouncer came over and punched him in the face."

The police statement said that staff closed the venue but did not report the incident until two hours later, but the restaurant management has categorically denied that anyone was injured that night.

Other incidents alleged to have taken place include a fight earlier that month between a group of men inside Gilgamesh, during which a man removed his belt and wrapped it round his knuckles before hitting another man.

In October a man had four teeth knocked out when he was punched in the face and in September a woman was treated in hospital for glass injuries to her legs and face when a row with girls in the toilets spilled into another area of the club.

Superintendent Raj Kohli, of the Metropolitan Police, said in the licensing papers: "This venue has a history of serious violence and under-reporting with the police."
