Revpar falls by 4.2% in London hotels

Revenue per available room fell by 4.2% in London hotels and by 5.3% in the provinces in the week ending 14 February 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar fell to £84.52, down from £88.26 in the equivalent week of 2008.

Occupancy declined by 3.8 percentage points to 72.2% while average daily rate fell by 0.8% to £117.14.

In the same week, revpar in the provinces fell to £45.43 (down from £47.95) thanks to a 2.6 percentage point fall in occupancy to 65.2% and a 1.5% fall in average daily rate to £69.47.

Cardiff bucked the downward trend with a 30.6% boost to revpar (to £60.49) on the back of a 35.3% hike in average room rate.

Revpar for the 28 days to 14 February declined by 11.1% in London hotels and by 12.7% across the regions. Cardiff hotels experienced a lesser decline in revpar of 7.1%.
