Ludlow, the famous Shropshire foodie haven, could lose yet another of its top-rated properties, as the once Michelin-starred Overton Grange goes on the market.
The news follows hot on the heels of the announcement that the two-Michelin-starred Hibiscus restaurant was being put up for sale (
Caterer, 27 July, page 7). Overton Grange, the Edwardian 14-bedroom country house hotel has been launched by property agent Knight Frank with a price tag of about £1.65m.
Overton Grange's restaurant, the Willow Room, won a star under chef Claude Bosi (now at Hibiscus) in 1998. It lost its star in 2001, soon after Bosi departed, but still holds three AA rosettes. The hotel has planning permission to convert its coach house and install a spa, indoor pool and tennis court.
Ironically, Ludlow was recently crowned the UK capital of slow food, but a spate of recent sale announcements could change the town's restaurant scene, which once boasted four Michelin-starred properties at the same time.
