Jack Russell Inn

The Jack Russell Inn in the North Devon village of Swimbridge has been sold off a guide price of £445,000.

The detached freehouse is well-known in dog-breeding circles as it sits opposite the parish church where Kennel Club founder Reverend John (Jack) Russell bred the first Jack Russell terrier – called Trump – 180 years ago.

As a result the village, which is six miles from Barnstaple and near both the Exmoor National Park and the North Devon coast – attracts more than 1,000 visitors from across the world to the annual Jack Russell fan club convention.

The business incorporate three letting bedrooms, a main bar, a 40-seat restaurant , a skittle alley/function room and three-bedroom owners’ accommodation.

The new owner is Paul Darch from Landkey, near Barnstaple, who has experience managing licensed premises locally.

The Exeter office of Christie + Co sold the freehold on behalf of Ian Ford and Rose Phippon.
