Accor to open four hotels and create 170 jobs in London

French hotel operator Accor is set to open four new properties across London next month with the launch of a Novotel and Ibis hotel in Blackfriars, an Ibis hotel in Shepherd's Bush and a Mercure in Greenwich.

The October openings mean that a total of 1,000 new bedrooms will be launched in London this year, across six new hotels and extensions to two existing hotels. By the end of the year, Accor will have 53 hotels with more than 9,000 bedrooms throughout the capital.

Thomas Dubaere, managing director of Accor UK & Ireland, described 2012 as an incredibly important year for London. "As the market leader in Europe and a key business player in the hospitality industry, Accor has treated this important year as a strategic opportunity to boost our presence in the UK's capital by investing in upcoming areas such as Shepherd's Bush, Blackfriars, Whitechapel and King's Cross, and improving the training and development of young people in the hospitality industry, to ensure a long-term legacy for 2012 and beyond."

The newly built 182-bedroom Novotel and 297-bedroom Ibis London Blackfriars hotels, which occupy adjoining buildings, have led to the creation of more than 70 jobs in the local area.

Meanwhile, the 128-bedroom Ibis hotel in Shepherd's Bush, which will employ 30 new staff, is situated next to the West12 centre and within five minutes of the Westfield Shopping Centre.

The 145-bedroom Mercure Greenwich is located within the converted 1930s Maurice Drummond House in Greenwich. The building, which won RIBA's London Architectural Medal in 1946, will become Mercure's 72nd hotel in the UK and is creating up to 70 jobs.
