The Vegetarian Society has launched a free guide to help school caterers produce inexpensive but nutritious food for children.
“Vegetarian Catering for Schools and Colleges” is available as a booklet or on CD-Rom and contains about 50 child-friendly recipes.
The charity claims the recipes have proven popular with both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike and will go a long way to ensuring pupils receive five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
Caterers can also undertake training courses at the society’s Cordon Vert culinary institution near Manchester.
