Hospitality operators have been urged to contribute to new research on qualifications reform being spearheaded by sector skills council People 1st.

People 1st estimates that despite most hospitality employers carrying out training activities in the workplace, just 3% results in a formal qualification.

The research project will lead to substantial qualifications reform – and it is vital that employers give their feedback in order to deliver the best possible recommendations, according to Brian Wisdom, chief executive of People 1st.

“All the feedback that we have been getting is that qualifications need dramatic reform,” he said. “We have a series of 75 events running across the country and we urge as many people as possible to get involved. This is the best way for hospitality business leaders to shape relevant qualifications for the future.”

“It is essential that they tell us what they need in order to deliver the necessary robust evidence base which is needed to facilitate change,” Wisdom added.

This study is the second tranche of research carried out by the sector skills council. The initial work lead to the National Skills Strategy launched by former tourism minister Shaun Woodward earlier this year.

Upcoming events will be held on Leeds and Guildford and full details of how you can get involved are available by visiting www.people1st.co.uk/qualificationreform
