Five Lakes Resort to be branded as Crowne Plaza
The four-star, 194-bedroom Five Lakes Resort in Maldon, Essex, is to be branded as a Crowne Plaza Resort.
AB Hotels, headed by founder Abraham Bejerano, has decided to brand the property in order to maximise the resort's full potential and to gain an international profile.
The upgrade that is required to achieve the necessary standards from brand owner InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is being overseen by BDL Management, which has taken over the day-to-day operation of the hotel, golf, country club and spa.
"This is an exciting development for all three parties involved," said Bejerano, who bought Five Lakes out of receivership in 1994. "It is felt that the combination of the international strength of IHG, the management expertise of BDL and AB Hotels' continued ownership and involvement will produce the commercial returns of which Five Lakes is capable."
Five Lakes had extensive leisure facilities including two 18-hole golf courses - one of which is a PGA championship course - and two restaurants. The Camelot restaurant holds one AA rosette.
There are currently 21 Crowne Plaza hotels, with a total of 4,676 bedrooms, across the UK.
