Von Essen's Greenway Hotel & Spa sold to Eden Hotel Collection
The 17-bedroom Greenway Hotel & Spa near Cheltenham has become the latest Von Essen hotel to have a new owner.
Set in eight acres of parkland on the edge of the Cotswolds, the Elizabethan manor house has been acquired by the Eden Hotel Collection, owned by the computer and aviation entrepreneur Sir Peter Rigby, off a guide price of £3.5m. It currently holds three AA red stars and two AA rosettes.
The Greenway is the second hotel to be added to the portfolio of now six luxury hotels this year, following the purchase of the 17-bedroom Brockencote Hall in Worcestershire in the summer, for more than £3m. The collection also includes the one-Michelin-star Mallory Court in Leamington Spa, Buckland Tout-Saints in Devon, the Kings Hotel in Chipping Campden, and the Arden Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The group's managing director, Mark Chambers, said that the Greenway was a perfect fit to the Eden Hotel Collection as it provided everything the company looked for in a hotel.
"The added benefit of the recently developed spa poses a different dynamic for our company and we are excited to be taking the Greenway Hotel & Spa back into private ownership, where it will get the care and attention needed to return it to its former glory," he said.
Chambers will be supported by Simon Haigh, director of food and beverage of the Eden Hotel Collection, in ensuring the hotel sets a new standard of culinary excellence for Gloucestershire.
The Greenway Hotel & Spa is the seventh hotel in the Von Essen group of 26 hotels in the UK and one in France to be sold following the collapse of the company into administration in April, with debts of more than £250m. Ernst & Young is the administrative receiver of the group and Christie & Co is handling the marketing of the hotels for sale.
