US chef Charlie Trotter in talks to open in New York

Monday 03 December 2007 11:30

Celebrated Chicago chef Charlie Trotter is in talks to open his first restaurant in New York.

Trotter is in negotiations to open in downtown Manhattan at East 22nd Street in the lobby of One Madison Park, a luxury apartment development in a 60-storey glass tower facing Madison Square Park.

The new development, currently in the early stages of construction, is scheduled to be finished at the end next year.

While the promotional website for One Madison Park talks of “A five-star restaurant by one of the best culinary minds in the world” and the developer told The New York Times that meant Trotter, a spokesperson for chef said, “Although we are in preliminary talks no deal has as yet been finalised”.

Trotter was previously to have opened a seafood restaurant in Manhattan at Columbus Circle in the Time Warner Center, alongside fellow feted US chefs such as Thomas Keller, who opened Per Se there in 2002, but pulled out of the deal in September 2005 after costs escalated.

He previously pulled out of deal in 2003 to open in London at the Hospital in Covent Garden.

Trotter, whose eponymous Chicago restaurant celebrated its 20th birthday this October, opens a new restaurant, Trotter by Charlie Trotter, at the newly opened Palazzo resort in Las Vegas later this month.

He will open a second Chicago restaurant at the currently under construction Elysian hotel in the Gold Coast Area of the city, currently scheduled to open in October 2008.
