Hotel cleared of noise nuisance after installing a noise regulator

A council has cleared a Suffolk hotel of noise nuisance after hearing it had installed a noise regulator.

The Ufford Park hotel Woodbridge had been before Suffolk Coastal District Council for permission to vary its licence, when protests were received that noise from music evenings was causing a public nuisance.

Local councillor Michael Bond speaking on behalf of a number of local residents said: “Not only is there thumping music which penetrates walls and closed windows of houses, but human voices carry clearly over the intervening distance."

But Colin Aldous, chairman of Ufford Park, explained to the council that the hotel was sensitive to the needs of neighbours and tests conducted at the boundary of the premises had not found the noise to be excessive.

He added that as a further precaution the hotel had now installed a noise regulator, which would limit music equipment if it became too loud. This satisfied the council.

The 90 bedroom hotel has about 60 music nights a year.
