Industry needs support in recruiting disabled workers

Hospitality employers have been urged to tell the Government how best to support them to boost the employment rate of those with disabilities.

As major employers of people with disabilities, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) wants caterers and hotel operators to make their views heard on how effective current support structures are.

The DWP also has a number of proposals up for discussion including the expansion of Disability Employment Advisers’ roles within Jobcentre Plus.

Although the employment rate for disabled people has risen from 38% to 48% in the past 10 years it is still far behind the 74% of working aged adults in jobs in the UK and the Government wants to improve this.

The consultation on improving specialist disability employment services runs until 10 March. Read the consulation in full here >>
