VisitBritain launches iphone app

Details of the new VisitBritain iphone app

A new app for the iphone has been launched by UK tourism agency VisitBritain.

The app, which is free to download, provides users with information about the locations where iconic British movies such as Braveheart and Notting Hill have been made as well as background information and details on how to find them.

A commercial tie-in means distributors can plug their movies through the app whilst British film lovers have access to movie trivia.

VisitBritain is not the first organisation to jump on the app bandwagon. Jamie Oliver launched the ‘20 minute meal’ app aimed at getting people cooking using video clips and random recipe generators.

Travelodge has also launched an app named the ibooker allowing guests to locate, book and even order room service before they arrive at the hotel. In a culture where 91% of people use a mobile phone it is a savvy marketing ploy.

Other brands that are launching apps include InterContinental Hotels Group and Four Seasons.
